The YWCA Teen Parent Mentor Program (TPMP), serving mothers ages 19 and younger, has participated in ongoing efforts that promote the reduction of racial, ethnic, or socioeconomic health disparities among program participants and within the community. Participants receive individual and peer group support while learning about health and social factors that impact their families such as the importance of education, nutrition, prenatal care, positive parenting, child neglect and abuse, breastfeeding, safe housing, and job readiness skills.

Participants benefit from positive encouragement through case managers and mentors who help teen mothers succeed in school. Our volunteer doulas are trained to provide emotional, informational, and physical support before, during, and after childbirth. The information and support offered through group connections helps moms deliver healthy babies, raise school-ready children, and postpone subsequent births to beyond adolescence.

The Teen Parent Mentor Program receives generous support from United Way of Greater Greensboro, Cone Health Foundation, and Guilford County.

Components of the Teen Parent Mentor Program include:

Pack ‘n Play Initiative

Our Pack ‘n Play Initiative is an effort to raise awareness about the dangers of co-sleeping. Utilizing Pack ‘n Plays encourages safe sleeping, reduces the risk of Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS), and other sleep-related causes of infant death.
