Apply to Volunteer

The first step in becoming a volunteer is to complete a Volunteer Application.

After completing this form, you will be asked to view an online orientation video.

The YWCA requires criminal background checks on all volunteers who may come in contact with minor children for liability, insurance, and safety reasons. We may also check your driving record if you will be driving during your volunteer time. For this reason, we require your middle initial, gender, and date of birth.

At this time, we are unable to accommodate court-ordered volunteer service.

Questions? Please email Grants and Compliance Administrator, Cayla Strahan at volunteer@ywcagsonc.org or call (336) 273-3461.

Internships

The YWCA Greensboro welcomes interns from local colleges each year. Interns provide invaluable support while working toward their own educational and career goals. If you’re interested in interning with a YWCA Greensboro program, please complete the application below.

Current Opportunities

We utilize volunteers throughout the year in a number of one-time opportunities like special events, monthly meetings, clean-ups, and more. If you are in search of a project like this that you or your group can participate in, please email Cayla Strahan at cstrahan@ywcagsonc.org. See the list below for our ongoing opportunities.

  • Front Desk Coverage
    •  This is an opportunity for volunteers looking for consistent and on-going volunteer work. We currently need coverage at our front desk weekdays from 9am-4pm, and are looking to utilize volunteers in shifts. Responsibilities include answering phones, assisting guests visiting our building, sharing resources to callers, and light administrative help like making copies, assembling marketing material, or taking inventory.

  • Mentor a Teen
    • Mentors are matched with a pregnant or parenting teen in our Teen Parent Mentor program and provide support, guidance, and friendship a few hours each month to help teens navigate adolescence while becoming mothers. Visit our Mentor a Teen page for more information.

  • Host an activity, workshop, or event for our participant families
    • Do you have a special skill? Do you teach a dance class? Do you know a lot about budgeting or building a resume? Do you like to paint nails, host game nights, or lead meditation? Consider donating your time and talents to our families. If you’re interested in hosting a special activity or event, please contact Cayla Strahan at cstrahan@ywcagsonc.org to discuss.

  • Donate your services
    • We invite business owners to donate their services to benefit our participant families and meet various needs they have. Barbers have offered free haircuts, food trucks have provided a meal for families, and yoga teachers have led free classes in our facility. Do you have a service you’d like to donate? Let’s talk! Please contact Cayla Strahan at cstrahan@ywcagsonc.org.

  • Host a fundraiser or drive on our behalf
    • We are always in search of new and creative ways to collect needed supplies and raise funds to support our programs. If you or your group are interested in hosting a supply drive or fundraiser, we’d love to assist! Please contact Cayla Strahan at cstrahan@ywcagsonc.org to discuss.
