YWCA Greensboro Courage and Commitment Campaign

“It was the YWCA that afforded me the opportunity to come out of my comfort zone, develop my leadership skills and have the opportunity to work with women and others from around the world. I am what I am today, in large part, because of my association with the YWCA, especially the Greensboro YWCA. It is a great organization.”

– Shirley Frye, Past President YWCA Greensboro, Past Vice President, YWCA USA

Status of the Campaign

Today, the Courage and Commitment campaign has reached over 80 percent of its goal!

  • To date, gifts of almost $4.1 million in cash, 2-5 year pledges and estate gifts committed
  • Building named after Shirley T. Frye, a former YWCA Board President, a bridge-builder, and talented community leader who led the merger of our community’s two segregated YWCAs in 1970. It is the first civic building, in Greensboro, to be named after an African-American woman, other than a school.
  • Fundraising continues with less than $1 million still needed to support women and families through the Family Shelter, Teen Parent Mentor Program, Passion to Purse, Healthy Moms Healthy Babies, Youth Organizing Services, Partners for Healthy Youth and other programs
